Symptems.

1. PC won't boot. (not even error beeps)

2. Bootup hangs at "press del for setup"

3. Windows loads but then freezes.

3. System hangs while dialing up.

I've been having theese and other probs for the last few weeks. Most times a swift "upside the head" fixed it. That's why I post this in hardware.

What was the prob? Dirty contacts on my PCI Modem card!

Reseating the card didn't help. I had to use a Q-tip and Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the contacts.

File under "curious fixes".

it sounds more like a ram or cpu overheating problem than anything

I had an XP install totally eat itself on a new compaq for a customer. After HOURS of trying everything it dawned on me to take a look at the extra RAM i had put in when they got it. Yep. That fixed it. Took it 2 months for the problem to show up though.

it did happened to me once with a customer server
