My friends and I have been using BulletProof for our server for around a month or so and we all use Passive mode which from what we can tell requires Port Forwarding on our Routers.
By Default Passive Ports are 1024 to 65535 we have narrowed that down with some success. We use port 40000 and now have Passive Ports at 39000 to 41000. When we try to lower that number a connection can not be made.
Why do we need so many ports open? Have we reached the minimum needed?
Please post any suggestions or settings that will narrow that number even more.

I use BulletProof server v2.15 and run behind a Linksys BEFSR41 DSL router. I have ONLY port 21 forwarded(TCP only)and the server listens on port 21 only. Have not tryed any other ports yet but this work for both PASV and PORT mode.

We kinda wanted to stay away from port 21 because @home knows that is a "common" ftp port. so we went a lttle higher, well alot high I guess to also eliminate "some" fo the port scanners.I just want to narrow it down as far as possible that all.
Thanks for the input though

I use seru-V
using port range from 27000 upward..
no problem with passive !

I think its more of the firewall issue and th ISP end ?
