52X CDROM taking 100secs to copy 275MB?

I am pretty sure the written speed doesn't affect the reading speed. lol. This should be something else. Remember, we can't expect a 100% efficiency in any device in the present world.

What kind of cabling are you using? afaik the newer ata133 need to be installed only one way. Some people put them in backwards to be able to reach the cdrom at the top of the case. In other words, the longest part of the cable (between ide connectors) should start at the mb, then the hd then the cdrom. I did this once and the transfer speeds deteriorated.

Do 52x really do 52x? Atleast a year ago it wasnt common that cdroms really read as fast as they said.

Well when I bought my new 52x and plug it in it was going at 40x.

However I changed it back to 52x using some program. Dont remember what. Might be WinGuides Tweak Manager.

um oh yea winboost 2001 but not 52x

Adjust CD-ROM cache up to 48x speed/DVD-ROM speed up to 6x speed

Kinda old now but 48x is better than 40x
