I'm almost done with fixing a computer for a m8,it's an old P2 200mhz with a no-name motherboard,VX pro 2 chipset on it,sound on board and an AMI bios from 1997.....
On my own rig,I have an Award bios, this 1 has a setting to disable onboard audio chips.....My friend wants me to add an audio pci card, that's why I need to disable the onboard SB16,but on the Ami bios of my bud's computer,I can't find such setting, maybe it's covered under another name?.

Oh,and he has no manual of the motherboard,so I can't play with any jumpers....I don't wanna flash his bios either.....

I think you want the "Interated Periferials" section and onboard AC97 or something like that. Try a Google search for "AMI BIOS" setup
Below is one link - I am not sure if it is too new.

You really don't need to disable it in the bios. It will still function with both.

I've seen problems with onboard vidoe and slot vidoe but not with two audio. My second pc has onboard ESS chipset and I added a aureal vortex card. I haven't had any problems with it so far.

I've had 2 Mobo's with on board sound. Both used an SiS chipset. The SiS chipset requires on board sound to be disabled to use a PCI soundcard. The old (PCchips) Mobo used a jumper. The newer (ASUS) does this in the bios.

Dollars too douhnuts, your OLD board needs a jumper. I doubt flashing the bios (wich you don't want to do anyway) will help. We MUST find a manual for your old board to find the jumper setting. Please post any and all numbers you find on the Mobo. On the other hand, why not tell your friend installing a PCI soundcard in this ancient system is, well, dumb?
