I am having trouble setting up a server on my computer for gaming. My computer consistes of windows xp (Firewall disabled) I am connected to a netgear rt311 router and I am being shared with 2 other computers. I programed in my router a static lan ip for my computer which I entered in my tcip properites (192.168.0.4) My isp gave me a static ip by in a way it is dynamic because I entered in my static ip 10.240.240.19 into my router for the wan but when I go to a web site lik "whats my ip.com" I get 63.98.9.233. My friend has the same isp as I do and he can set up a server on his system. It seems like this router is preventing me from being accessed from the outside world. I have spoken to netgear support many times but the problem still has not recieved a remedy. I can ping my friends Ip address not the 10.240 one but the 63.98 one (we are non the same circuit) but he recieves expires in trasit.

I have already set up the router in the config menu through dos. I have set the default ports to foward to my static routed lan ip. I have also set up under that ports to foward to my ip and it still doesnt work. It looks like this

port IP

1. default 192.168.0.4
2. 80 192.168.0.4
3. 21 192.168.0.4

ECT.

Still nothing. I have also tried on another computer not running xp so I know it is not my system I Do have set in my tcpi for my address to be specifically set to 192.168.0.4.

I have been able to set up a server with my old isp but since I switched I havnt. It has something to do with my isp I believe but my friend who has the same isp can set up a server. My old Isp I had a static ip that never changed where my new isp is a static but yet dynamic because after my static ip of 10.240.240.19 goes to my isp's routers it gets changed to 63.98.9.233.

I know this is confusing.

have you dloaded the latest firmware for your rt311? the new firmware supposedly solves problems with port forwarding.

what game server are you running? if i'm not mistaken, different games use different ports. you might want to check here:

Practically Networked's common used ports

What is a dnz. I dont know what that is so I pro bally dont have it on my 80 buck router. The game is Unreal but also setting up a ftp server is a issue. Im just not seen to the outside world. When someone tries to ping me they get expired in transit. My bud has the same ip/win xp/no router and he does not have a problem like I do. Yes I have uploaded the newest firmware to my router.

The DMZ setting allows 1 computer to be visible on the net while the others are not, I use this to host games and run an FTP

Well no and ya. I can set a staic lan ip to my system and enter it in the router for all ports open if that is what you mean. I believe the problem lies withen my isp and my router, Its like I am not visable to the outside world by I have a static ip that I entered in my router.

Stuff like this, beyond my knowledge.

Thanks for all the help so far. There are a lot of cool people in the world......
