Here's the fix that I always use:
You should also do the following (so that any other windows that are opening, by clicking on a hyperlink) open in a new MAZIMIZED window:
1. From an existing open IE window, shift and left click a link on the page.
2. A new window will open. Resize it by dragging the corners of it to mazimize it, filling your screen. Do not maximize it by clicking the mazimize icon.
3. Close the first (original) IE window
4. Close the new window that you manually mazimized.
Now when a second IE window opens from a first one, it will be automatically mazimized. This is a bug in IE that isn't well known.
