ok still working on this new computer. got all the front panel wires figured out.

so i plugged everything in and turned everything on. i can hear it come on but nothing will appear on the screen and the monitor light goes from green to amber. i am using an agp video card and thought it might be bad so i put in a pci video card but the same thing happened.

now i am totally clueless on what the problem is.

here are the specs of the system:

intel celeron 1.7g cpu
512mb pc-133 memory
8mb tnt video card
cydene cd-rw(not sure how to spell it)
350w power supply

i had that same problem once, but the prossesor was fried. I hope thats not the case with you. are you getting a post? like does your computer beep when you turn it on or a few secounds after?

Here is a simple checklist that i perform whenever i get that happening to me. I try each one in turn, attempting to start the system after each step

1: Remove the CMOS battery for 30 seconds or use the jumpers to reset the BIOS. ENSURE that the BIOS reset jumper is in the correct position (Its so embarrassing when you let that one get past you :P)

2: I'm presuming you are using an ATX motherboard, give the wires on the ATX power connector a wiggle. Sometimes they don't connect to the motherboard that well and need "Repositioning"

3: Does the motherboard need the 4 pin AUX power connector? And have you plugged it in? (Some intel systems need this connector to power the cpu, i have forgotten it quite a few times myself :P )

4: Take the memory out and try it in another slot or swap it for one that you know is defiantely working if possible.

5: Remove any aditional cards that are in there, Sometimes something as simple as a soundcard, scsi card or other addin card not seating properly can halt a system.

6: Check in the motherboard manual to make sure that your PSU is capable of running the system.

7: Sit in a corner and re-read the manual- you may see something you had missed previously

8: Re check all the jumpers are set in the same position (I do this last because my fingers were not made for switching jumper positions!!)

If all that fails then take the CPU and memory to a friends house and try it in their computer- or try their hardware in your computer. If you are using hardware that none of your friends are using then take the cpu and memory to a reputable shop for testing (Are any computer shops reputable???)

I don't know what your level of computer skills are so if you have tried all the above ignore me :P

Some reasons i have had for no display and/or post beep:

Faulty CPU/CPU not seated correctly
Incompatible Memory/Memory not seated correctly
Faulty motherboard
Motherboard not mounted in chassis correctly (Wasn't sat on mounting legs, i didnt build this one- it was brought in for repair)
Addin card not seated correctly
PSU too small
BIOS reset jumper incorrectly placed
CPU multiplier/voltage/speed set incorrectly (Both jumper and bios controlled boards)
Voltage incorrectly set on PSU

If i think of anything else i will put it here- hope this helps

The most important thing is what POST beep code you hear. Depending on which BIOS (Award, AMI, etc), the pattern of beeps should give a clue as to where the problem lies. So, what do you hear?

1: did that, same thing still happens.
2. yes atx, rechecked and re-seated everything, same thing.
3. not that i know of.
4. did that, same thing still happens. going to put in some other memory that works later today.
5. no additional cards, just the agp card which i have to have.
6. its supposed to be good for a pentium 4.
7. done that and didn't see anything.
8. did that and didn't help any.

can't switch stuff in another computer cause the other ones can't handle anything faster than a 900Mhz.

computer shop is closed today, but if i can't get it working i'll take it there.

Does your Mobo/chip set provide ANY graphix? If so,

1 Remove ALL plugin boards and plug your monitor into the monitor out on your mobo.

2. Double check your ram. It looks like your board has 4 ram slots. 2 for DDram and 2 for SDRAM. I would install 1 stick in the proper slot and start from there.

I just built my first PC. ASUS A7S-VM mobo and 1.1ghz Athlon. I had it working just fine until I started installing PCI boards. I installed my Sblaster and a modem and it wouldn't even boot! I have 4 PCI slots and it took me 3 freaking hours to find a combination that worked! I wound up installing the modem in slot 4 and the blaster in slot 1. Go figure!!!!

nope, no onboard video.

i only have 1 stick of 512mb, but in the morning i'm going to stick in a 128mb stick and see what happens.

one more thing. i unplugged the hard drive, cd-rw, extra fan, and took out the memory. now from every computer i've messed with, it always beeps whenever it don't have any memory in it, well this one didn't.

so if it was supposed to, does that mean the mobo or the cpu is bad?

oh yeah, i don't have any pci cards stuck in yet, was waiting until i got windows installed.

try resetting or jumping the mb battery, its either bad ram, bad motherboard *cringe* or bad cpu *sigh*
my mobo is out i think, take ur pc to yes maybe even a compusa or local pc store and have them try out the motherboard ram and processor seperate on their pcs.. im also very mad about my pc

will be taking it tomorrow to local store since where i live doesn't have a compusa/staples/office depot or any of them.

well i took it in today and i had put one extra standoff (no hole on the motherboard so it was shorting it out) on the case and didn't realize it. thank goodness they didn't charge anything for messing with it.
