Read thru the section ftp help in help and support, there is all kind of info there. Maybe ask question in there will get more response.
Then go to
_http://no-ip.com and set up account.

Pick what server you want to use,
I use GuildFTPD
_http://www.guildftpd.com/
_http://www.guildftpd.com/screenshots.htm
_http://www.guildftpd.com/support.htm

Load everything up, play with controlls,
Then start the questions. You'll have a better idea what you need to know. You'll see that it's not too hard to setup, except maybe if you're behind a router.

well....first off, if you plan on hosting over the internet, you need a static ip. if you dont have one, you can use something like no-ip or dns2go (but you have to pay for that one now) to simulate having a static ip.

this is my own personal way of doing it, but i know that a lot of people have different methods that work well for them.
i use windows 2000 server with IIS to run ftp. lots of members here use a third party tool such as bulletproof or servU as their ftp servers and they seem to work just as well. i make sure all my permissions are strong and all my users are set up correctly.

basically, make sure you have a static IP or something like it, you have a good program to serve with (IIS or a third party program) and that you're secure. going into windows 2000 permissions and groups is a whole tutorial on its own...

Why not have a look at the FAQ & Tutor forum?

There you find a lot of reading.
I recommend my own tutor - find it here.

@ unicorn.....That was some very good reading and it really did help me sort some things out in my head as I read. Now I have some more exploring to do.
Thanks for the article and another one would be great, reading is one way to get educated, get information and maybe even learn something.....which I did.

Thanks Dudelive

You're welcome Dudelive - thank you.

Knowledge should be shared - consider a dir for books at your server!

@Pcdad12078.........Thanks for that link, it suites me just right. I lost alot of information with a recent computer goof-up.....you know the kind when you say &^%$# #$$##$%^. Plus lots more, but if you don`t make mistakes then you are not doing anything. If you make the same one again then YOU got a serious problem....LOL

Thanks
