I just did a Windows update and got the latest new Word and Excel updates, and after I rebooted, all of a sudden I had to Activate my key...

I have not had a problem so far..I upgraded to all the SP1 versions, and then the final, and never had this problem til last night with these two updates.

Anyone else have this happen?

Is it Windows Activation or Office Activation?

It seems odd that a Word and Excel update would kill windows since not everyone uses office

mmm interesting...
i dont think Office deactivated the Windows Activation.

@jefexp, i downloaded the oxpsp2a.exe (Office XP SP2 Administrative Update) and slipstreamed it to Office XP SP1 folder in my HDD. (the Office XP CD was fully copied to the HDD, and I slipstreamed it with oxpsp1a.exe (Office XP SP2 Administrative Update)).

i got no worries

My Office XP remains unaffected, and the update was from Windows, not from Office Updates. I am wondering if while my computer was searching for updates at MS, MS found a bad key or something. It allowed the download of the security updates, and askeed to reboot, which I did. Then, all of a sudden I had to activate my windows after my reboot.

Could Windows Update ccause this?

Yes:

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS02-059: Flaw in Word Fields and Excel External Updates Could Lead to Information Disclosure (Q330008)

hxxp://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/exc1003.aspx
hxxp://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/wrd1005.aspx

Again, these were from Windows, not the Office updates. I did them last night. I have received a few other updates over the last month or so since XP SP1 final came out. This time, something at MS must have check or been different.

Well, I got windows up and running again, now I need to activate Office XP. How do I do that? Is there a way to change the product key, like you can in Windows?
