An update to Windows Media Player 9 Series Beta Refresh (build 2903) is now available. Please note, Windows Media ?Corona? Player & Player SDK Beta has only been tested in a limited capacity on Windows XP. Installation on any other operating system is not supported. For more information on the Windows Media 9 Series Beta, please go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...es/default.asp.

The updated Windows Media Player 9 Series Beta (build 2903) is now available to our Windows Media Player Corona Technical Preview participants. We have fixed numerous bugs since the last beta refresh (build 2800). We encourage everyone --all web developers, ISV's, ICP's, etc...-to install and provide feedback as we work towards our final release of Windows Media Player 9 Series.

Details of fixes included in our previous Windows Media Player 9 Series Beta Update (build 2800): Beta testers of Windows Media Player 9 Series have been actively reporting their experiences via the microsoft.public.windowsmedia.beta newsgroup and the Windows Online Crash Analysis tool. Microsoft analyzed these reports and found two common issues related to personal firewalls and surround sound speaker settings that were hampering the beta testing process for many users. We addressed these two issues in build 2800 to allow our beta testers to continue testing the product and providing us with feedback.

Personal Firewall issue: If you have a personal firewall product installed on your computer, in some cases Windows Media Player fails to receive content over a network and in other cases the Player may crash when trying to receive streaming content. The problem is related to the firewall software that is not yet able to handle new Windows XP and Windows .NET Server networking APIs. Windows Media Player 9 Series Beta Refresh (build 2800) addresses this issue.

Surround Sound Speaker Setting issue: If Windows Media Player starts to play audio but there is no sound, check to see if your speaker settings are set to Surround Audio. There is a known issue in Windows Media Player 9 Series Beta where the Player may crash when you play regular stereo or mono WMA content while your speaker settings are set to Surround. Even if the Player does not crash, you still won't hear any audio. Windows Media Player 9 Series Beta Refresh (build 2800) addresses this issue.

some experiences:

except in the user account which media player was installed, the music libraries of windows media player in other user accounts has been cleared after the update. so had to search for new media (using F3). searching for new media in the windows media player build 2903. it was damn slow when comparing with the MPXP or the build 2799. it took like 10mts to import 548 files. so slow just like the musicmatch jukebox.

it seems like the SRS WOW effects bug is now fixed in this issue. however, i feel like the the volume gets decreased when the SRS WOW effect is enabled for MP3s and it is increased for WMAs. i dunno for how much i am true though. in the build 2799, it was the opposite: i felt like the volume increased when the SRS WOW effect was enabled for MP3 but decreased for WMAs. the situation now, is quite god for me, but it may be bad for the MP3 users. so it is just kinda warning for you guys if you are so into the effect of SRS WOW. you will be depressed if it happens to you

I've installed the latest and import all my music, but when I select anything in the left pane (Artist, Group, ect..) nothing shows in the right window pane, doesn't show anything. So I can't use it at all.

@crppld: mmmm, interesting issue
looks like a need of a screenshot here in the forums.

i found why it was sooo slow importing the music. it was that setting the volume leveling while importing music was turned on by default, which was turned off in the previous players.

you cannot install the build 2903 in Windows 98, but in 98SE, ME, 2000. you cannot even extract the mpsetup.exe and trick it. this could be done in the official release 2799. it said: you have all the uptodate components and no need to update.
