try the following without reinstalling winME or win2K

Re-extract the files 'NTLDR' and 'ntdetect.com' again, from the XP CD. (CD Boot - Recovery Console Prompt) copy F:\i386\NTLDR C:\ copy F:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:\
