That should have stopped that.

The setting is in Outlook that needs to be unchecked or checked or whatever.

Worse comes to worse, you can always check the option in MSN to not let it run in the background. But then you won't be able to minimize Messenger or it will close.

Move this to software support. Seems a better location for this.

You can uninstall windows messenger by clicking - "Start/Run, and typing this or just copy and paste the following. After the uninstall rename the messenger folder to somthing else or outlook will still look for it ands run dog slow

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

If you don't want to lose messenger, then I would recommend installing a tweak utility that -breaks- the tie in with OE. I ran into the same problem and it is not exactly new. I think they started doing this last year. Anyways, I use Express Assist to back up my mail, but it won't run if OE is running. Even when OE was NOT running or even messenger, I would get this error. They tie everything together pretty well now. Well, unticking "automatically start..." did not work for me. However, there is a setting in the tweak utility "Xsetup" which specifically breaks this tie in "feature". Everything works fine still, but you just have to click the appropriate shortcut to load the app you want. You can get Xsetup here:

www.xteq.com/products/xset/index.html

Be careful not to do anything you don't understand with this program. It is simple to use and explains everything. It also warns you if you are about to do something that might disable your system. So don't get to paranoid about using it, but just be careful. It has lots of neat tweaks.
