Every once and a while the Monitor would change to a hueish tint. The white background isn't as bright. Looks duller. Now it is permanent. Lost the brightness. Any ideas what happened and most important how can it be fixed? Help very much appreciated, thanks.

This can be caused by older or poorly shielded speakers on either side of the monitor.

In essence you are creating a magnetic field with the speakers and it will make your monitor do some funny things. Not sure if that is your problem, but I have seen it before.

Number one rule - never take apart your monitor as its pretty much the same as a tv - lots and lots of volts stored.

Sounds to me like one of the guns in your monitor is weakening. Take it to a shop and get a free estimate - but chances are its gonna cost you between 50-100.00, so you may want to consider purchasing a new one as they are pretty cheap these days.

My last old TV would often turn pink at the top and green at the bottom when I put it on. Turning it off again and leaving it for a while used to solve the problem

I had a monitor that did this and after a while it just became duller. I suggest you stick your hand in your wallet and pick up a new shiney one.
