This began last night, I could not connect to MSN Messenger, Kazaa, Bearshare or Winmx. I also could not connect to most webpages. What is strange is that I could load certain webpages. I even tried using Mozilla instead but the same thing kept happening. When I checked my "Network Neighbourhood" and pinged my computer everything seemed fine. Today is Monday and the same thing is happening. I didn't install any new software or download any programs. I also did a virus scan and all is okay. I was wondering if this could be an SP1 problem...could there be some kind of spyware installed with that. Are the Gods at Microsoft trying to stop us from going to certain sites and from downloading. I even tried reformatting and the same thing keeps happening. While in Windows 98 there is no such problem. What is up with this. I want to be able to run Windows XP...help. Thanks for any ideas.

Maybe this is a NIC (network card) problem. Mine just dropped dead one day, but maybe yours is taking its time about expiring.

I never even thought of the network card. This really makes my day. After bashing my brains for days, it turned out to be exactly that. Thanks for your help annyjay.
