In addition to the much anticipated features of the upcoming "iPhone 2.0" set to be released in June of this year, sources within Microsoft leaked today that Apple plans to not only license Exchange ActiveSync in the upcoming refresh, but plans to allow users to "dual boot" their phones with Windows Mobile.
Speaking on a condition of anonymity, and exclusively to Neowin, the source said that while final pricing had not been decided, estimates for the software, dubbed "Boot Camp Mobile" ranged from $169-$199.
"Both Apple and Microsoft want to make sure that this download is of significant value to both of our customer bases," our source said.
He went on to explain that Apple intends to bundle a set of custom applications for Windows Mobile including an iTunes for Windows Mobile that would allow owners to play their downloaded music on either operating system, as well as a Safari for Windows Mobile. Neither product will be available outside of the exclusive release, although we're sure the good people from XDA-Developers and other Windows Mobile hacking sites will find a way to extract the software for use on other Windows Mobile devices.
Apple is expected to fully announce the offering in May.
