RELIABLE SOURCES close to perhaps the most secretive company in the CPU world tell the INQ that MP processors using the Palomino core are close to being phased out.
System integrators are being told to look for bids using the multiprocessing MPs below 2000+ so that AMD can ensure supply.

Palomino MP cores under 2000+ will be phased out by the end of September, and the cores replaced by Thoroughbred cores, it appears.

Slower Palominos will still be available for the next six months but won't be shipped into the channel after the end of this month.

It appears, too, that AMD has started a pre-release system integrator deal for four way Opteron machines, with major OEMs participating in the program.

System integrators we have talked to over the last three to four months tell us they are still waiting for the sort of specifications they get from Intel, such as case dimensions, thermal conditions and the like.

This programme is apparently a response to that criticism from AMD's channel, who have other beefs with the CPU company including odd pricing behaviour. µ
