No honour among thief takers
THE INTERNATIONAL Chamber of Commerce 'Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting And Piracy' committee has been accused by another anti-piracy group of nicking its data.
According to Boing Boing, anti-piracy tracking service Gieschen Consultancy is complaining that the Chamber has stolen its information and reformatted it under the ICC's own brandname.
Gieschen says that the ICC and BASCAP misrepresented itself as a partner in 2006 and 2007. It then gained access to proprietary information and then took what they learned and incorporated it into their own product offerings.
It claims that the anti-piracy group's functionality, user interface, presentation, method of classification, and delivery is clearly based on Gieschen designs and existing products.
A spokesGieschen said that it was "extraordinary" that an organisation committed to fighting counterfeiting and piracy would steal the intellectual property of another organisation.
