How to: Crack Vista (not!)
If you read my little thing regarding activating Vista VLK,
you might have noticed that Microsoft is making things harder for people who wants
to use an unlegal copy of their new flagship.

Just like Captain Jack Sparrow, there are new and modern "pirates" out there, who wants to
"crack" the secrets of security that Microsoft has added to Vista.

One of them, calling himself "Doctor Chang", claims to have the perfect crack:
Quote:
Download it soon before link expires. Highly in Demand - The only working Crack in Net for Windows Vista RTM

Dr.Chang's Windows Vista RTM Crack Permanently Activated *Proof Inside*

*Type "slmgr.vbs -xpr" and it says that windows is permanently activated,
it never expires,
i tried by pushing the date to Year 2016 (Ten years ahead) and restarting several times,
then i moved the date back to 2006, the only thing that expired is my Antivirus.
* Windows is permanently activated (Proof Pic above) So no more 180 days problem
* Windows Activation Succesful using this Crack (Proof Pic above)
* No Updates Problem. Received Windows Updates Successfully (Proof Pic above)
As you see, he has "picture proofs" to back it all up...
I won't post them here, instead I will post some others, to show that there is no such thing as a free lunch...

Beeing a curious person, I wanted to see if this was for real, or just another one bragging off,
pretending he had (re-)inventing the wheel.
Doing a clean install of Vista (32bit) RTM, followed by the pirates instructions,
gave a intresting result (but not supprising).

The first mistake he did, was to forget this nice little utillity that comes with Windows,
called : winver.exe that after the so-called crack is applied, will show that the Vista installation
will expire, and it will give you the date and time of when it expires.
(hint: the same date and time as your Beta/RC key expires)

Second,
there are some updates he never tried to download I guess
Thats where my picture-proofs comes into action :
First, lets try to download the new version of Active Sync (to sync your contacts with Windows Mobile)
To do this, you have to add a key to your registry, reboot and do a Windows Update.
My computer found the update, but when trying to download it I got this message: UpdateNotWorking.jpg
So I followed what it suggested: update.jpg
The result was this: Shit.jpg

Now I ask you to draw your own conclusions, would this "Pirate" survive a long time in the Carribbean ?

Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything. 14% of people know that.
