Sony finally gets around to flogging a Blu-ray Player
Six months behind HD-DVD
SONY HAS finally gotten around to releasing a Blu-ray player in Japan, more than six months after its rivals Toshiba released an HD-DVD player.
More than 75 movie titles in Blu-ray will be released in autumn to go with the player, Sony said. One cannot accuse Sony of being rushed about Blu-ray even though many are expecting a fight to the death with the HD-DVD standard. This 'enthusiasm' has had a knock-on effect on the rest of the business too. Sony delayed the introduction of its PlayStation 3 game console until November to allow Blu-ray to come out. This left the ground clear for rivals like Microsoft to establish its Xbox360 and Nintendo work on the Wii.
