Thought i'd post these sites and some information for the general use of those that are wondering or need such information.

a few sites which describe methods for slipstreaming SP 1 into your present XP cd's:

hxxp://www.justinwojas.com/bootcd.htm

This one is very nice and well layed out with information on making bootable cd's as well. It deals specifically with the XP SP1.

The next one:

hxxp://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/sp1_slipstream.asp

this one is for windows 2000 but the same instructions work for winXP

The next one:

hxxp://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp3/spdeploy.htm#the_integrated_installation_fmay

this one from MS also describes the process, but in typical MS language so it may confuse some newer people.

and some instructions for doing the slipstream:

1. From the gold release of XP (2600), copy the I386 folder to the root of a
hard drive (let's call it D).

2. Expand the SP1 package with WinZip or similar into a folder called SP1 on
the same drive.

3. Open a command prompt and change to drive D, then change dirs to SP1.
Inside there'll be a folder called UPDATE.

4. Change dirs to UPDATE and then type this command:

update -s:d:\

You'll see a dialog box appear showing the progress of updates to the
D:\I386 folder, and a notice upon successful completion.

Use this updated D:\I386 folder to install XP SP1.

and a couple of methods to expand the SP from a friend:

"Just run xpsp1.exe -s:d:\ and it will do the same thing. Although, it does expand the package to some random-named folder on the root of whatever drive the package originally resided. That random folder has to be manually deleted, too."

and another method to expand the SP:

You can run xpsp1.exe -x and it'll ask for the location to extract the
files.
