Gates: No one wants a PC with a tiny screen
SOFTWARE ARCHITECT of the Microsoft Universe, Sir William Gates III, told an audience of government buyers that no one wants a PC with a "tiny little screen", Reuters reports.

According to the report, Sir Mr Gates said that just after he'd displayed an Origami seven inch device, a device which could cost as much as $1,000.

Mr Sir Gates, according to Reuters, was pouring scorn on MIT's $100 laptop project and said that the big costs for a PC come from applications, network connectivity and support.

Indeed, the bill of materials (BOM) for a fully fledged PC can still be dominated by the cost of a Windows OS. That cost has maintained its big slice of the pie chart forever, while all around the software, the price of hardware has declined. You can find the Reuters story here.
