According to the GAIM website, Sean Egan, the lead developer of the open source instant messaging application, has been hired by Google. His post in the news section states that he will be working on making Google's recently released chat program, Google Talk, more interoperable with other clients such as GAIM.
"The goal of Google Talk is to make real-time communication as open as possible, and in that regard, I've been working to offer all of Google Talk's features into other clients" says Mr Egan. Google Talk is already based on the open Jabber protocol, and by bringing developers from other open source projects to their own team, Google is clearly pushing for interoperability. This news comes just as Microsoft and Yahoo! announced that they will be linking their two previously separate IM networks.
