lickablepig is an unknown quantity at this point
Code:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: Windows\System32\Hal.dll
I have an NTFS partition with WinXP Pro SP1 2055 that I'm having trouble accessing it's on a triple boot beta box. win98, xp pro FAT32, xp pro NTFS.

I'm able to access win98 and FAT32 Xp Os through the default ms boot loader, i tried several methods of fixing boot.ini. Including boot cfg /rebuild, fix mbr etc, read some knowledgebase articles blah, blah, blah.
Tried using recovery console, it wont accept admin password even though it's the correct pw. duh, prolly karma for making light of an SP2 2082 install gone bad... cough, @ da other spot

When i choose (NTFS XP Pro) from the boot loader i get the hal.dll error. This happened folllowing next reboot after installing from Windows Update site three Critical Security Updates...
If i was [par'noid] i'd think M$ planted the error message sabotaging for payback of having too many copy's of an OS on a single licence[/par'noid]

Currently i'm running erd Commander from the winternals erd slipped sp1 disk trying to see my ntfs install to save some data...

My question is has anyone succesfully replaced a hal.dll file like i'm attempting to do to resolve this to get it back like it was before?

I'm simply renaming the hal.dll in the NTFS OS and copying / pasting the hal.dll from my XP Pro FAT2 OS

replacing the hal.dll file from one os to the other did not work.
ah well ghost to da rescue...
