Stop showing zip files in folder list.
Whereas some folders have dozens if not hundreds of zip files, it is annoying to have them show in the left pane folder list...To work around this "compressed folder" view in XP, open Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View ... and untick "Display simple folder view in Explorer's Folders list" and click ok.
Thanks, Great and useful site!
Remove Owner colummn From Explorer's Details view to dramatically speed up display
Do you sit and wait while Explorer seems to take it's time showing the owner of each file/directory that is displayed? If so, then you might find the following useful:
1. Open Explorer and select "Details" under the "View" menu
2. Right click on any of the column headers (such as "Name", "Size", or "Owner")
3. Uncheck "Owner"
You should see immediate improvements as you navigate around.
To make this permanent for all folders,
4. Select "Folder Options" from the "Tools" menu
5. Select the "View" tab
6. Click the "Apply to All Folders" button
Now, you will not see "Owner" in any folder. If you want to re-display it, simply follow the instructions above and re-check "Owner" in step 3.
Delete Unwanted Screen Savers Loaded w/XP
If anyone else was wondering how to get rid of the annoying Screen Savers that Microsoft feels you have to have with XP they made it a little more difficult than normal.
1. Navigate to C: windowssystem32 and delete the Screen Savers you want to get rid of first.
2. Then you have to go to ¡§C:windowssystem32dllcache¡¨ you will need to cut and paste or type in your address bar to get there (WO the quotes) because it is hidden and can¡¦t be seen even if you choose to view hidden folders
3. Once there, delete the Screen Savers in that folder also (they will be named the same thing). Otherwise, you will find that they will come back no matter how many times you delete them from your system 32 folder. Voila---no more Screen Savers!!!!
?h this worked with XP pro but I am sure it is the same with other versions
