I have been thinking of Bear Cat?s very wonderful response to Flanderz. I just came in after an hour working in my garden, moving plants, laying down peat moss, etc. BC's response is the good one. I think of my daughters and I am happy to know BearCat is there. On the other hand, Saddam's daughters are no longer children. So, maybe Flanderz has a point.
My eldest daughter, now 40, will give birth to my second grand child next month (a boy). My daughter was born in Germany, attended grammar school in Los Angeles, finished her high school years in Montreal, and did her university years in Paris. She now lives a simple life in a small village on the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily. She recently asked that I send "Tea With Terrorists" by Craig Winn and Ken Power. Sub titled: "who they are, why they kill". It's really interesting. I'm reading it before mailing it to her. Read it! A good war story, but a lot of factual Biblical and current history. I had to order it from Barnes and Noble since it is not on everyone's reading list.
On that score, I spent a couple months last year in Jordan, Syria and Iran and found it revealing. The greatest problem is education in the way that we, in the "west", think of education. In the Islam world "education" is often indoctrination. It's different that what we are used to.
Redkitty?s admonition to ?wake up? has value. It?s great to be compassionate and understanding. Quite another to just bend over and hold your ankles.
