DATARAM HAS ACHIEVED A FIRST after its 1GB low profile DIMM passed Intel Advanced Qualification Testing. The memory module shows another step on the road to miniaturisation, being only 1.2 inches high and .15 inches deep.
Memory keeps on getting smaller and Dataram has taken advantage of this by using 36 FBGA 64x4 chips on the module. It is DDR2100 registered ECC and designed for use in 1U chassis machines.

Dataram claims that its competitors are only offering stacked .25 inch deep modules at the moment. They also claim that the new design improves airflow and hence heat dissipation because it is so thin.

We suspect it won't be long before other companies catch up. It certainly isn't the first to pass the tests, just the smallest in its class. The Dataram module uses 256Mbit chips and several DRAM manufacturers have started turning out 1Gbit chips which should make small memory modules easier to produce.
