Maxtor is releasing a new 320GB hard drive but they are not very
confident their drives are reliable:
(what r they thinking of?)
These drives are going to be a pain because they will require a special controller card and if someone partitions them greater than 133 gigs the utilities in Windows, like Scandisk and Defrag, will scramble the file allocation tables which results in the destruction of all the data.
Until hardware and software catches up to support these big drives I think I'll stick with the 120 gig drives, dont u?
Also, effective Oct. 1: Maxtor will SHORTEN their warranty on OEM drives from 3 years to 1 year.
IBM and Western Digital continue with a 3 year warranty (for now).
