Religious war brewing in portable games
MAKER OF entertainment gear, Apple wants to use its iPhone to knock Nintendo's handheld DS console out of the portable games market.
While Apple has always offered games on the Ihone gizmo, the
New York Post reckons that Apple's messiah Steve Jobs sees it as his company's job to convert the heathen Nintendo users to the true Cappuccino path.
Nintendo has been doing extremely well lately thanks to its successful Wii and DS devices. The
New York Post bases its view on a piece by bogger Kasper Jade, of AppleInsider.com. Jade was told that a major game developer was given some iPhone technology quite some time ago and told to come up with a decent game on the iPhone.
Engadget is expecting announcement at ritual smug-fest Macworld in in January. It is possible that Jobs' Mob is finding that after the novelty of the iPhone's launch has worn off, it is getting harder to flog the shiny little beasties.
Maybe Steve is hoping that the only way to shift the nice looking boxes is to make them do as much as possible to draw-in as many different markets as Apple can.
If Apple does want to make the Iphone play games, then it will again find itself on someone else's turf, the borders of which have been marked out in the blood of those who have failed. Nintendo and Sony fan boys are almost fanatical as their Apple rivals. This could either be one of the biggest religious wars since the 30 Years War or a Wii in the wind for Apple.
Apple will also be completing with a gadget which is obscenely expensive in comparison to its rivals. It is also unlikely to attract as many games on the machine as the likes of Nintendo and Sony.
