M$ tried thatSEARCH OUTFIT Google is getting into the television business.
The outfit says it will team up with US cable network EchoStar to flog television advertising. It says that it will "change the way advertising is sold" by making potential advertisers bid for time on the air.
It will also provide advertisers with detailed information regarding the viewership of each ad just 24 hours after the commercial airs.
Google claims it can automate the entire TV advertising process from planning the campaign to uploading and serving the ad to reporting on its effectiveness. A spokesGoogle said that it will work like Google's AdWords advertising program, Google TV ads are bought using an auction and through a single online interface that is already familiar to agencies and advertisers.
Google can do this thanks to all those set-top boxes which are sitting on digital televisions which report back to Google exactly what happens during the time that an advert airs.
Echostar that has over 13m subscribers, Google has also signed a deal with Astound Cable, a small San Francisco-based cable company to offer similar services.
