Second generation. Who needs it?
DESPITE THE fact that Microsoft seems to be doing quite well in the second generation console battle, it is lagging behind when it comes to winning the war.
According to sales figures in the US, Vole's super soaraway Xbox 360 is being outsold by the older and less technologically advanced PS2.
According to the NPD Group, the PS2 has outsold the XBox 360 in six of the seven months since the Voleware was first released.
Vole has averaged 246,000 console sales each month, while the PS2 has seen an average of 473,000 units.
Microsoft was hammered by Sony in December when the outfit managed to flog 1.5 million of the games.
The figures show why Sony doesn't need to rush its PS3 into the shops at any great speed. Nor did it need to panic that the XBox 360 will do it long term damage to a future PS2 and PS3 combo on the market, at least in the short term.
However, the tide might be turning. Microsoft seems to have fixed its supply problems and there has been a job in sales. April even saw Microsoft beating the PS2.
