Promises not kept
BEST BUY, which promises to destroy hard-drives when punters trade them in, has been accused of selling them on, complete with personal data.
Henry and Roma Gerbus, who traded in their hard-drive at the Best Buy branch in Springfield Township, were told that the old hard drive would be destroyed.
Gerbus said that staff at the store said that the hard-drive would have holes drilled into it so that it became useless.
However, a month ago, Gerbus got a call from a bloke in Chicago who said he had just bought a hard drive for $25 in a flea market.
The drive had the couple's personal information, including Social Security numbers, bank statements and investment records.
The man sent it back to them, but Gerbus is furious. Best Buy says that it is going to investigate the claims. More
