One of the key developers of Microsoft Word, Charles Simonyi, is said to be planning a trip to space next year.
Reuters reports that if Simonyi goes ahead with the plans, he would be the fifth space tourist. The Russian space agency Roskosmos announced that it has signed a contract to take Simonyi into the blue in spring of 2007. The cost of travel was not announced.
Simonyi, one of the numerous people to get rich off Microsoft in the last twenty years, recently left the company and started his own business called International Software.
The cash-starved Russian space agencies are more than willing to take rich tourists as Mark Shuttleworth of Thawte fame can attest. In 2002, he paid a rumoured $20m to travel to the International Space Station.
