Copy HI8-Videos to PC ( CD-Rom )

hi all,

does anyone have experence to copy hi8-videos from a camcorder ( Canon UC8HI F-PAL ) to the pc or burn to one or more cds

my hardware:

P3-450
Asus P2-99
256 Sdram
Grafik - Diamond Viper 770 ( 32 MB )

1. which hardware is necessary ( video-card )
2. which software is the best
3. is my processor, motherboard,... ok

I use ATI tv wonder card (and ATI multimedia center 7.5) for captures from my HI8, which u can use to capture in many different formats (mpeg,avi,divx,wmv...) from there you can edit the movie using any number of programs (ulead video editor, adobe premier and many simpler ones as well) and then to burn I use ulead's dvd factory and make vcd's which can be played back on normal dvd players. Oh and as far as processor and motherboard go - faster is definelty better (1G+ AThlon or faster P4 best), motherboard not as important but you'll need lots of RAM.
PS- the truly best processor for video editing is the MAC G4's bar none but thats quite an expensive just to do home movies if all your current software is Windows only.

Not to familar with that one I was looking at pinnicles PCTV card though and it seemed alright. One thing, the DC10 only seems to have video in (no audio in/out) which isn't a problem but it is nice to plug everything into one card and I also can't find on their site if you can use external codecs. I went with ATI because it is also a TV card, they've been making them for awhile, it allows you to use many differnet codecs for capture, good price, external conneciton box makes for easy hookups, very easy to use, and I'm patriotic (ATI's a Canadian company

).

Do not waist your time on a slow machine.
It is very processor and RAM intensive...
SERIOUS machine required...
Video card, like ATI RADEON 8500, is a good choice.

the capturing is done with the TV wonder card so I don't believe the video card has as much to do with it (could be wrong?), but definetly the processor and RAM are the most important.

The ATI All In Wonder would come with everything needed to edit (basic hardware and software) the video and all other stuff, but your machine has to be able to handle it.

yea don't know why I didn't mention the all in wonder series other than slightly slower 3D speed (compared to standard Radeon cards) they are a great piece. I built a system for my father with the Radeon all in wonder and he has found it excellant for capturing . The new 8500DV although expensive is the BEST all round card right now.
