Apple has just updated its iMac G5 line of products.
All models now ship with 512 MB RAM as standard (finally!!), the graphics card is updated to a Radeon 9600 with 128 MB DDR, allowing full use of Tiger's Core Image technology. Processors get a speed bump, while Gigabit Ethernet also appears on the whole line. Bluetooth V2 and Airport Extreme are also standard as well.
Prices now start from $1,299 for the 17-inch, 1.8 Ghz, 160 GB SATA and combo drive.
The more economical eMac (G4) also gets a speed bump (now running at 1.42 Ghz), and the graphics card is updated to a 64 MB DDR Radeon 9600, ready for Core Image.
All Apple computers now ship with Tiger, obviously.
These updates are quite significant for the iMac G5. The recent Mac Mini is now the only Apple computer still fitted with an outdated, Radeon 9200 card, thus not compatible with Core Image.
Last week, the Powermac G5 line of products was updated as well, an update which was perceived by many as rather useless. Today's updates on the iMac G5 are much more appealing.
