I had this problem once and I ended up having to just delete the account and make a new one.

Well when loged into the admin account check the event viewer and see if anything strange is in there.

Not sure what else to tell ya m8.

About to pass out but sure I will be more awake later.

I have this in the event viewer:

Windows cannot set the background refresh timer for Group Policy. WaitForMultipleObjects (The handle is invalid. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

And this :

Windows ended GPO processing because the computer shut down or the user logged off.

And this:

TraceLevel parameter not located in registry; Default trace level used is 32.

This too :

Windows saved user ASTALAVI-QKXA6T\Administrator registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.
This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

Try to disable the Nvidia Display Driver Service. That is if you have that.

You can try system restore if you had it enabled.

Here are the instructions for starting System Restore from the command prompt:

Start your computer by selecting Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
When the command prompt is displayed, type the following: [systemroot]\system32\restore\rstrui.exe (the system root folder is the folder to which you installed the XP operating system files, usually c:\windows).
