Hi All,

I got a very strange problem. This Windows Installation is only 2 days old.
After Windows was installed, I was able to install Office 2003, Adobe Acrobat 6 and Windows Media Player 9. But that's all.

All of a sudden, I failed to install Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003. I then tried to install Windows Media Encoder 9, but that also not responded while it was initializing the Windows Installer. Now I tried installing ACDSee 6 and got the same type of error. Please check the attachment screenshot.

This is very weird and I have no idea how to resolve the problem without reformatting Windows.

Much appreciate your ideas,
Yours,
McoreD.

Try this.

Disable Windows Installer serivce.

Then restart computer. Then set to manual and try install again.

Worked for me last time I had that error.

If that does not work download:

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...BD/msicuu2.exe

cya,
Will

Thanks Bads and Will.

Disabling the Windows Installer in Safe Mode and restarting the service in Normal Mode does fix the problem.

I managed to install ACDSee 6 like that.

But when I tried to install another application, the same problem reappeared i.e. Installer not responded. Had to end task the msexec.exe finally. I am afraid I have to do the above process (i.e. disabling Windows Installer in Safe Mode etc.) for every application I wish to install.

I think my Windows Installation is screwed for some reason.

When I tried moving folder to another (network) folder, I get an error saying: The feature you are trying is not currently available. Please insert Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 CD and Press OK. lol.

Also, I cannot right click and go to Properties in any folder. Alt + Enter does not work too.

Guess I have to reformat.

This is the first time something like this happened to me. I guess that is because I didn't properly format the HDD and install Windows. I renamed the old Windows folder, Documents and Settings folder and Program Files folder.

TTFN,
McoreD.

Unfortunately, the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility also uses msiexec.exe and it fails while Initializing.

Only reason why I told u to get it is that you can fix the problem with it.

Disable the windows installer serivce again like you did then run the clean up tool and Clean Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.

Then restart computer and try windows installer again.

And everything should be ok.

Just extract the msiexec.exe and run msicuu.exe. Dont have to install it.

You could always try installing the latest beta version of the Windows Installer maybe

Although that probably uses MSIexec to install as well lol

Run regedit, locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\MSIServer

In the right pane of the Registry Editor window, double-click ImagePath.
In the Edit String dialog box that appears, make sure that the string in the Value data box contains the correct path to the Msiexec.exe file.... usually, the correct path is
C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe /V
Reboot and start in safe mode....... then execute the "run" command.
In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK:
msiexec /regserver

Shut down your computer, and then restart your computer normally.

This is all very weird my friends. For some reason none of those above does not seem to work.

This time I formatted the Hard Disk and installed a fresh copy of Windows. I managed to install Office 2003 and AntiVirus software. Then I connected to the network. Weirdly, I couldn't install any software after that. Installer just not responded as before.

(I was trying to install Visual Studion .NET which where the setup files were in another Network Drive. The setup failed to install the prerequisities. Then I copied them to the local hard disk and retried - same error. )

I was talking to tnc last day and she also described a similar situation where the computer started having Installer errors once the computer was connected to the Network.

I have no idea how this all happens. I am going to restart to Safe Mode and I have something to try. I will update this post after that.
