Course you can go cheap and pick up a radeon 8500 le from newegg.com for $98 if you live in the US. Then just pick up one of the new next gen ati or nvidia cards once the price has dropped a bit or a good Xmas sale.

I've got a Leadtek Winfast Geforce 3 Ti200 TDH 64MB (got it from nxgen.com) and I am extremely happy with it. Amazing performance!
I would get it before a GF4 MX

Good luck shopping!

Why get a GeForce 4 when the ATI Radeon 8500 and 9700 are the best graphics cards on the market..?

DO NOT GET A GEFORCE 4MX!!!! They are nothing more than renamed versions of the original Geforce2 with slightly improved speed. They do not have ANY of the enhancements found in the Geforce4 or even 3 series. Your best budget bet would be a Geforce4 4200 with 128 mb of memory - it has great performance, great overclocking ability, and has the memory needed to handle upcoming games. Go with this card, you can't go wrong.
Is that what you think?

Then how is the GF4 cards programmable? Why can Doom 3 only run on the GF 4 cards? O wait, I guess its just because, like you said, a tad bit faster.....yeah right...

GeForce4_MX does NOT have the programmable vertex and pixel shaders found in GeForce3 and GeForce4 (not that games are using them yet anyway). The MX is a souped-up GeForce2 core combined with the GeForce4 FSAA unit and a new video processing unit not present in the true GeForce4. The GeForce4 4200/128mb is in about the same price range as the MX and is more future-proof, as it has exactly the same features as the top-of-the-line 4600.
