If you want to avoid getting busted at work or just don't want people to see where you've been, then there are four areas that should be cleared from your computer: (Based on Microsoft environment) For Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher:
1. Clear History File: The "Clear History" button clears the pages visited from the drop down list on your browser. To delete the files, have Internet Explorer opened and go to: Tools - InternetOptions - click Clear History. This clears the web adresses in the drop down list of the browser as well as in Windows Explorer C:/Windows/History
2. Delete Temporary Internet Files: On your browser -Tools - InternetOptions - click Delete files (This deletes the files directly from C:/Windows/Temporary Internet Files) in Windows Explorer.
3. Delete Cookies: from Windows Explorer. C:/Windows/Cookies. They can look like this:
Mike@sexshow[1].txt. To disable or be prompted of cookies go to: Tools - Internet Options - Security - Custom Level - under Cookies select either Disable or Prompt
4. Empty Documents Folder: be sure to check the "Documents" shortcut feature found in the "Start" button menu underneath "Programs". To clear or "Empty" this area go to: Start - Settings - Taskbar - click on the Start Menu Programs tab - click the Clear button.
If you use Netscape or another browser or have an older version browser, delete them manually from Windows Explorer. Go to Windows Explorer and:
1. Delete your address bookmarks stored in your History file. Located in C:/Windows/History
2. Delete your Temporary Internet files (graphics) that have built up on you computer in this file. Located in C:/Windows/ Temporary Internet Files
3. Delete your cookies (bookmarks of sites visited) that have built up from surfing. Located in C:/Windows/Cookies. Or turn off your acceptance of Cookies on your browser while on the Internet.
4. Delete documents stored in the documents file. Located at Start - Settings - Taskbar - Start Menu Programs tab - Clear
