I am planning on buying a new hard drive.

I have 2 options:

SeagateŽ Barracuda? ATA IV 120GB IDE Drives - ATA 100 - 7200RPM - 2MB cache Model: ST3120023A

or

MaxtorŽ 120GB - ATA133 - 7200RPM - 2MB Cache - Quiet Drive Tech. - Shock Protection & Data Protection Model: 6Y120L0

Which one would you buy?

Your opinion will be much appreciated.

Both are good. Get the cheapest unless one has a longer warranty.

Oops! Just noticed Maxtor is ATA 133. All things being equal, (and if your Mobo is also 133) I'd get the Maxtor.

My 80 gig 7200 RPM Maxtor HDD gave me hell at first, I had to low level it twice within a month of owning it, but I'm pretty sure I just got a bad batch like Flanderz, the one they sent me when I finally RMAed the drive has been fine for months.

Unless you're using a RAID array, you probably won't notice the difference between ATA100 and ATA133.

What'd I'd go by here is the length of the warrenty. Maxtor recently cut their warrenties on new drives down to 1 year from 3 years, so if Seagate will give you a warrenty longer than that, I'd go with the Seagate, if not, then go with whichever one is cheaper.
