The installation takes about 1 hour. During that time Windows Longhorn is reffered to as Windows Longhorn, Windows Longhorn XP, Windows Freetyle and Windows Media Centre Edition.
Install Guide
To install this version you need to extract the contents of the cd to a directory on the hard drive then run seup from there from within another version of windows. If you have a valid Windows.NET RC! serial you can also activate otherwise you only have 14 days to use it before it expires. You can use the reset patch floating around on the internet for that though.
During setup the installer can't find the files twice. Just browse to where the I386 directory is and it will install from there. One time it says please insert the Windows XP Professional CD 2??
After installing Longhorn starts up very slowely for the first time. After it has installed it will look similar to Windows XP.
After that you will notice that it runs very slowely. To get the performance back you will need to go to control panel, administrative tools, services.
Scroll down to Windows Future Storage. Right-click on it and choose stop. Then right-click on it again and choose properties. Under startup type choose disabled. This will speed up your computer loads. This service is used to emulate the file system which will be implemented later on and gives extra details about files.
By default the Windows XP theme is used and the sidebar is turned off. You will probably first want to use the Plex theme and also enable the sidebar. It starts off with nothing on it but you can add things by right clicking on it. The taskbar can also be added to it.
Good luck!
