Hey all. I just upgraded my system to an Iwill KK 266 +R mobo woth an AMD 1.4 Ghz Tbird. Woot! Anyway, I have updated to the latest bios and I have updated windows (Win 98SE, forgot to burn my copy of XP to disk first. Duh. ) with all current updates, but when I click shutdown, it attempts to reboot the system instead. Any ideas?

wow Darkwolven,

Big update

For your problem, you have no direct Cd installed ?

Or Roxio Software except Goback 3 Deluxe ?

No Roxio/DirectCD at all. I use Nero with the Incd packet writer. I don't use Goback either, though I did take an image file right after installing Win 98SE. I will check my bios and then maybe restore the fresh image to see if my install got corrupted somehow. I will let you know if that works.

win98 had shutdown problems on certain chipsets and bios chips
you can go to microsoft's knowledge base .....
http://search.support.microsoft.com/...ln=en-us&sd=gn
and select windows 98 on the top and put shutdown problem in the description, you will find 50 or 60 links to problems with win98 shutdown.

and read a few of these articles about the shutdown problems 98 has.
Most can be cured with a patch or updated driver,
Read away!!
Hope this helps
