"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\

- Next find the value HungAppTimeout set to 5000. Then locate
WaitToKillAppTimeout which is in the same folder and set it to 4000 from
the default of 20000 .

Then find the following

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\

and look for an option called WaitToKillServiceTimeout and change this to
4000."

in reference to this on shutting the computer down faster, i was just wondering if instead of changing 'WaitToKillAppTimeout' to 4000 in both directories could i change it to a lower number like 1000 or even 100??

would this be bad and cerate a problem or would it just shut down even faster...

THANKS

If you shut down your machine with services running, I would assume bad things would eventually happen.

But honestly, I am not sure about what you are saying....anyone else?

Found this somewhere

How to improve on shutdown time ? Close apps automatically & quickly at shutdown

Open Registry by going to START-RUN and typing REGEDIT. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CONTROL PANEL\DESKTOP and look for AutoEndTasks. On my computer default value is 0. Change it to 1. Thats all. Further more you can reduce the time it takes for Windows to issue kill directive to all active/hung applications. In doing this only constraint that you should make sure exists is that HungAppTimeout is greater than WaitToKillAppTimeout. Change the values of WaitToKillAppTimeout to say 3500 (since default value for HungAppTimeout 5000 and for WaitToKillAppTimeout is 20000)

Hope this'll work <_<

If not, you'll be sorry. I just installed a fresh WinXP Pro installation today. Don't wanna to waste another 30minutes. (I created a backup using Norton Ghost 2001, that's why it's 30minutes )
