I tried running sfc /scannow after updating to SP1 but the program asks me
for the installation CD. Am i supposed to put in the original XP CD? Wouldn't that look for the old files, instead of those updated by SP1? Is there a way around it?

I installed XP from my hard drive because it was faster, and before SP1, i
was never asked for the installation CD. I assumed that sfc was able to
locate the install directory. Now, how can i direct sfc to the install
directory of SP1 since i only downloaded it from the net, and it is not in a
CD yet.

Send a message via MSN to greypigeon
Run Regedit and change this

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

and look for the key called SourcePath.

Change this key's value to your hard disk path off the i386 folder---- like d:\i386

Greets

All is ok now

@xplorer

Check here and change the 1 for 0

Allocate the CD-ROM for local user only:
("AutoFix" Available)

Go to 'Start | Run' and enter "Regedt32." From the Registry Editor go to menu item 'Window | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.' Within the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window navigate to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.' Double click on "allocatecdroms:REG_SZ:0" and change the string to 1 and hit OK.

This value entry satisfies, in part, the C2 security requirement that you must be able to secure removable

This is the same trick for floppies

Allocate the floppies for the local user only:
("AutoFix" Available)

Go to 'Start | Run' and enter "Regedt32." From the Registry Editor go to menu item 'Window | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.' Within the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window navigate to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.' Double click on "allocatefloppies:REG_SZ:0" and change the string to 1 and hit OK.

This value entry satisfies, in part, the C2 security requirement that you must be able to secure removable
