I have a movie AVI file from my friend, he can playback that movie in WinXP windows media player. But I can't play in my Win 98 computer, even I installed codec 3.12 and 4.12. Any help, please.
Thanks in advance.

yeah either use a divx player/codec or maybe even quicktime

you cal also look for a little codec pack called nimo, works great, has a lot of codecs included

I've found on kazaa network a file called:

"All you need to watch Divx movies.exe" it is a very nice collection

of software for divx!

If U don't use kazaa I can upload to you..

Thank you all for replying.
I downloaded and installed codec in new Divx 5.02, nimo pack, morgan pack, and "all you need to play Divx". But I still can't play that movie file. I think that file or CDR is bad, I will ask my friend copy again.

Please make sure that your divx is official released and that the encodered have used proper codecs.

Most of the divx movies that are release are coded in divx 3.11a. There are some other sites that offer more impressive codecs like divx 5 and what not. These all work.

Please take note of "need-to-patch" codecs, such as SMR. The only copy of GI Joe that I know of was coded in SMR.

You or anyone else can find anything to do with divx @....

The coding should actually be in the nfo file that came with the "offical" release.

What is the movie called and mabye someone may be able to find the correct codec.

Please do not post a link to your movie, just the name as it appears in your folder. Thanks

Just trying to help.

Thanks a lot for very useful info about codec and the link, Cyberion. Much appreciated.
My friend copied again that movie on CDR, now it works. I still can't figure out how first copy was working on his WinXP but not on my Win98 computer.

NiMO Codec Pack :

Do *read* the installer information re: specific graphic card drivers and possible conflicts :

h77p://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/

NiMO Codec Pack
v5.0 build 8 is current
v5.0 build 7 is solid (and my preferred choice)

be careful when installing the v5.0 build as the full installation in Windows XP! it replaces some systems files with digitally not signed files.
use the basic installation of that or have the Nimo Lite Pack.
