I have an old 10 gig hard drive I am using as a secondary storage drive.

I got a message from XP that there was a critical hardware error and XP was shutting down.

On reboot, I got a disc error from the bios and XP doesn't start. The hard drive light is was on. I unplugged the secondary storage drive and everything was normal.

I assume that the drive is dead. Is there anyway I can revive it temporary to get my data off the drive.

Long shot but any advice would be appreciated.

Stringent is an unknown quantity at this point
Could try plugging the drive into another computer. if it is FAT32 formatted, you can use an old DOS boot disk to boot into DOS and recover data that way.

Have you tried the drive on another cable, ie on as a Secondary master/slave instead of a Primary Master/Slave?
