Obtain general beta testing guidelines and information
To access BetaPlace, go to
http://www.betaplace.com. Sign-in with your .Net Passport. If this is your first time logging into BetaPlace, you will need to associate your beta id with a .Net Passport account. Be sure to keep this information on hand - you will need it when you log in to BetaPlace, and it must be included in all correspondence with the Microsoft Beta Group regarding your program.

Microsoft private newsgroups will be available for technical support. Private newsgroups are accessed from a dedicated news server and require a User ID and Password before giving you access.
To access the NNTP newsgroups and Windows Update Beta Newsgroup you will need a newsreader program. The newsgroups can also be accessed via your Internet browser by connecting to

Instruction on how to use Regupdate tool to set the regkey which enable you to enter

Run this script tool from your local folder - this tool is only applied to Windows XP, Win2K, Win9x, or WinMe users:
1. Close IE ? have to close IE at any time when you use this tool
2. Rename the ?V4? folder to other name to your preference, if you have one in c:\program files\windowsupdate\v4
3. Copy regupdate.vbe file on to your desktop (or any local drive), double click on regupdate.vbe, if this doesn't work or you have trouble then run regupdate.bat instead.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions
- Select ?Yes?, you choose to go to V4Beta site
- Select ?No?, you choose to go to V4 Live site

If you're having trouble running this script (RegUpdate.vbe) one possible problem might be that .vbe is not registered on this system. Just right-click the file and select ?Open With?. Next, choose browse and select c:\windows\wscript.exe, or select c:\windows\system32\wscript.exe (for Win2K & WinXP users)
Note #2:
Regupdate (.bat and .vbe) must to be run from a local machine folder and will most likely having some errors if an attempt is made to run it from across a network.
