HotP2P: Bye-Bye to 3rd Party Servers / Static IP Addresses / Dynamic DNS Services, posted by linkme on May 24, 2003 @ 06:52pm
HotP2P, a P2P email/file sharing app was initially released last week.
Although it's main features are P2P email, file sharing/searching, and chat, what makes HotP2P unique is it's ability to enable users to communicate with each other without requiring third party servers to login to (AOL, MSN, etc.), paying for static IP addresses or paying for dynamic DNS services.
This is done through constant ping confirmation established after an initial link up between two HotP2P users. Ping confirmation is only required for those HotP2P users with dynamic IP addresses.
HotP2P allows users to set up file-sharing public/group/private folders for other users they link up with. You can have a public folder for all your HotP2P contacts (public), group folders just for certain users (private, i.e. family, schoolmates, clubs, business, etc), and a folder for each HotP2P user (personal).
Other features include a mini-web server for your HotP2P contacts, private/group chat, and file searching of all your HotP2P contacts PCs. HotP2P is shareware (nags you, but doesn't annoy).
