Windows 2000 Update Site

Ok. I've checked the MS site about this, but to no avail.

I am running 2k pro, SP3. When I go to the Windows update page (in IE: Tools-Windows Update) I get

Quote:

The Windows Update site has been updated. To update your version of the software and begin using Windows Update, click Update Now.

So I click update. It goes right back to this page.

Any suggestions?

You may try clearing all the IE temp internet files, and clear the Temp folder in the Windows dir, and the temp dir in documents and setting /users/"your log in name" /local settings (hidden)/temp...then Reboot and try to update again....

Sometimes this will work, BUT

I suspect that you will need to UN-install SP3, Reboot a couple of times, and RE-install SP3....

I have heard of Quirky things like this happening, and after Uninstall, reinstall of the Packs, it was fixed....

I hope it helps too. I'll give the first one a try. I really don't want to have to un-install SP3.

It's strange; I've had 3 in for several months and it just started giving me this error when they updated the site. ??? Very stranage.

Nope, deleting that didn't work.

It has been about 3 months since my last format, prolly time again.

Is your autoupdate turned on? Try turning that on and let it install any critical, delete all cookies and temp files and try again.

Ok, but I think I got it off my system a while back. Remind me where to enable it if you would.

Right-click on my computer, choose properties then the auto update tab. That is for XP, think it is the same in 2000

If that doesn't help try deleting winuptmgr.exe and wuauclt.exe from the system32 dir and the drivercache dir while in safe mode, this should make windowsupdate download new updated windows update files. Helped me once to get it working again
