my best guess is your power supply is crapping out on you and it's not getting enough power... anybody else have a clue?

note: if this does turn out to be your power supply, it could very well explain all the problems you've been having with your pc lately

if your power supply is taking a dive it can cause problems everywhere, crashes, freezes, perfectly fine hardware showing signs of failure, etc. etc. etc.

Each CD-R and CD-RW at the beginning has got a so-called Power calibration area, in which the CD Writer can determine the laser power necessary to burn. Unfortunately this does not mean that every CD Writer can write on every CD-R. For most CD Writer there are makes of CD-Rs which cause problems. Often an update of the firmware can help. But then again a firmware update can make it impossible to write on some makes of CD-R.

Sure its a normal CD drive and not some high powered laser you use to shoot things with?

Had the same problem with a HP CD-Writer Series 9100 and i was able to manage a workaround by reducing the copy speed to the lowest setting (1x) 150
temporarily...........for a specific copy which i don't recall.
Tried buring another CD and it went well and no calibration error message. I read that by reducing the write speed to a lower setting, it frees up more ram for better buffer response........... hope it helps

I had that CD Writer and have had no problems with it, running on a normal 250W PSU.

I have had this error on 2 different drives a dvd writer and a cd writer

i needed to calibrate my laser which is turning a screw inside the drive, if it is under warrenty then take it back as it should not be doing this.

i dont have a direct link to calibrate a pc drive laser but its the same on any laser so have a read at this

thats how i did my 2 pc drives

dont turn the screw too much at once though try turning it just a little

hope this helps my drives write on any discs now, and work perfect

The Power Calibration error is normal.

I use a Iomega 650Zip writer with Verbatim Crystal cd-r media, it kept having the error.

But then when I burn the cd-r media with a TDK 48/24/48, it completed without a hitch.

You can also blame it on the quality of the writer on the so call compatibility of the writer with certain approved medias. And when I use another type of media brand on the Iomega writer, there wasn't any problem with the burning.

Both I tried with the same burning software, Easy CD Creator 4 and Clone CD.
