RESELLERS OF HP tin are being told by the firm that the announcements Sun Microsystems made earlier this week won't dent its rise in the Unix server market.
The firm, using IDC data, claims that HP is number one in midrange Unix server revenue with a 42% market share, while Sun,the firm claims, lost 40.4 per cent in the midrange market and is now number three with 18% share, while Big Blue has close to 29% of this market.
HP also claims that the V1280 has limited IO resources and the fact Sun has released these products now shows that its SunFire 3800/4800 were not accepted by the market in terms of price and performance.
The SunFire 4810 becomes obsolete, with the last shipment date being September 2003, claims HP, and the firm also thinks the 3800 won't be long for this world either, with the V1280 eating up sales of the Sun 4800 big tin.
